The new 80GB PlayStation 3 SKU was due out across the Eurozone on the 27th of August, but fresh evidence suggests the new console will actually be out this Friday. That's the 22nd, ladies and gentlemen.

Sony have so far opted not to comment on this, but key retailers such as Play.com, Game, Amazon and Gamestation all carry the 22nd as the release date.

The bolstered 80GB system will be replacing the 40GB console, although that outgoing SKU won't earn a price cut as all stocks will be depleted by the time the new package hits stores.

The 80GB system costs 299 GBP in the UK, and can be yours for 399 Euro on the continent.

More on all this soon.
