Epic impressed by EA partners
id and Valve helped persuade them
Mike Capps, boss of Epic Games, has told GameSpot that EA's existing relationships with major developers like Valve and id Software persuaded them to sign their new IP with the publisher.
Apparently, Epic spoke to both Gabe Newell (Valve) and John Carmack (id Software), and heard good things about EA Partners, the publisher's division that works with third-parties. Epic's secret new IP will be created by developer People Can Fly.
"It’s a new EA. Five years ago, if you told us we were going to be working with EA, I’d have thought you were a little crazy," explained Capps.
"But the way they just put so much more emphasis on external development and really partnering [is important]. They’re not just all about the games they’re making. It’s just being smart. I mean who wouldn’t want to publish The Orange Box, even if they didn’t develop it? Or Rock Band, right?"
