Sony pleased with sales progress
Nintendo say software is the key...
Nintendo may have owned July's sales numbers stateside, but that hasn't stopped Sony also indulging in a spot of self-congratulation, after PS3 sales came in ahead of the Xbox 360.
Apparently, console sales are up 99% year-on-year, with software sales up 206% over the same period.
1.8 million consoles have been sold stateside this year, and boss Jack Tretton proclaimed the figures as representative of the console's rise: "Our year-to-date sales growth of 99 percent for the PS3 reaffirms that consumers are indeed embracing PS3 as their entertainment hub-of-choice with its feature-rich offerings like Blu-ray and our recently announced video delivery service."
Nintendo, meanwhile, were understandably feeling pretty pleased with themselves too: "Great hardware goes hand-in-hand with great software," enthused Nintendo of America marketing boss Cammie Dunaway. "Various types of games for the Nintendo systems are represented in the top 10, demonstrating how we continue to break down the barriers between veteran and new players."
Microsoft, meanwhile, opted to focus on their console's strong software sales and high attach-rates. More on this tussle as it evolves.
