MAG "could only be done on the PlayStation 3"

So says Zipper Interactive

Speaking to Gamespot at Sony's E3 press briefing yesterday Zipper Interactive's lead designer Andy Beaudoin said that the upcoming "Massive Action Game" was specifically designed to be a game that could only be achieved on the PS3.

"Obviously with PlayStation 3 we've got a lot more power we can tap into to try to create different games, so we sat down and tried to figure out how we could take a lot of the shooter experience we had… and create a game that was going to be unrivaled, basically one that could only be done on the PlayStation 3." he commented.

The key element to the new title is to have massive 256 player battles in 8 player squads - a vast improvement on console multiplayer quantities currently.

He didn't explain the exact details but in his speech he noted that the Cell processor's SPEs (synergistic processing elements) "eat everything you throw at them", suggesting that it is the nature of the Cell processor that makes it all possible.

More on all this soon. Perhaps a response from Microsoft? We'll ask.
