Tretton explains "10 year vision"
No more quarterly updates, either
Electronic Arts told North American investors that they are still the world's biggest games publisher, announcing their full-year financial results, and rebuffing Activision's counter-claim of market leadership.
According to the firm, EA delivered 15 double platinum games in 2008, and is still the world's largest game maker, with a 19% share in North America, and a 20% share in Europe.
The company also says the future is bright, EA garnering a 15% Wii share in Europe, and an 11% North American share.
Taking a longer-term view of their business, CFO Eric Brown also announced the publisher will stop offering quarterly guidance, financial updates delivered every three months, in order to stop stock falls based on temporary delays and the like.
"The nature of our business is fairly variable quarter to quarter based on release schedules. We’ve a multi-year business plan for the first time," the CFO explained. "We’re looking out three-plus years as opposed to three-plus quarters, and we think its appropriate... so that we’re making good decisions for the long term."
