Tretton explains "10 year vision"
EA boss sees alternative PC future
Speaking after the publishing giant revealed their full-year financial results, EA boss John Riccitiello has said that casual games, and products based on a micro-transactional business model will be the way ahead for the company's PC offerings.
The CEO added that without World of Warcraft and The Sims, PC gaming would be a rather bleak landscape.
"Were it not for The Sims and the WoW box sales, it’d be a pretty dismal sector," "Ricci" told investors.
"The fastest growing [area] is subscription, microtransactions-based and casual games, many of which are pretty much centered on the PC. One of the things we try to look at at EA is the total business represented on PC game software, and we’re seeing a growth in business there.
"It’s been growing for several years… it’s categorized wrongly by looking simply at the box side of the equation."
The CEO's views echo those of Valve marketing boss Doug Lombardi, who told play.tm recently
