Word on the street today hints that eagerly-awaited sequel BioShock 2 could be in development for the PlayStation 3 console. The original was only crafted for the PC and Xbox 360.

A job posting on the official 2K Marin website delivers the hint in question, a new position requesting a level designer with previous PS3 experience. Tantalising.

Other ads mention the Wii, in addition to the PS3, but of course the publisher won't give anything away at this point.

BioShock mastermind Ken Levine will oversee the design of the sequel, while it remains unclear what original developers 2K Boston are up to.

A release late next year is mooted.
