Retail gossip online this week once again points to a release for the 80GB model PlayStation 3 in Europe, some reports suggesting the top-end PS3 SKU could arrive this summer.

The 80GB model released stateside does of course include enhanced PS2 backwards compatibility, something lacking from the 40GB SKUs on the continent, while retailers hint that they are working to clear out old stocks in anticipation of the sparkly new model.

No official release date has been offered, even to retailers, though even Sony won't deny that the revised console is on the way and will be announced for Europe in due course.

So, an 80GB model could well be on the way, although we're not sure when - with Sony even predicted in some quarters to be prepping a larger-capacity console, the firm hoping to go DLC mad with games, movies, music and more in the future.

More PS3 chit-chat as we get it.

With the upcomming launch of PlayTV in the UK it is almost certain they will increase the hard drive capacity of models there because 40gb isnt really enough for a game console and Hi Def DVR.

I think that they are going to bring the 40gb ps3 mgs4 bundle to europe so they can clear out all the 40gb ps3s and then bring otu the 80gb ps3s to Europe=D
