Sony Computer Entertainment Europe this week denied speculation which hinted the 80GB PlayStation 3 console might be axed in favour of a beefier 120GB model, describing insider-sparked rumours as pure speculation. Sony's North American division refused to be drawn on the chatter, meanwhile, though it has refused to die out completely.

Now a sources linked to US retail giant GameStop by CVG has revealed that stocks of the 80GB SKU are dwindling in North America, SCEA no longer delivering new stocks with only those left in retail chains available to sell. The 'insider' in question reckons a new 160GB SKU could be on the cards, although details and pricing remain unavailable.

A GameStop conference call also mooted the demise of the 80GB PS3, hinting, as other rumours before it, that a new 120GB SKU could be on the way including one of the new rumbling DualShock 3 controllers.

Or, of course, this could all be utter nonsense. We'll keep you posted.

I've been SO patient with the PS3 and I'm starting to completely lose it now that GTA 4 is out.

I personally DO NOT give a crap about the size itself, in fact the size simply indicates to me what type of console it is.

It's about principles, the "type" of console the 40GB is a limited one; 2 USB ports, no ethernet, BC and much more, in comparison to 60GB.

Look, bring back 60GB if you're that bothered, in fact keep 40GB just bloody bring back these features.

I really am not too bothered about Giga's; just the features. However, an 80GB would be brilliant for UK and the bundle is a massive bonus; I have intel of a bundle with the immense MGS4 included; I would buy it with no questions.
