World of Warcraft hits 9.3 million
China likely to help MMO pass 10m soon
World of Warcraft could pass the gargantuan 10 million player mark sooner rather than later, with subscriptions to the game world now totaling 9.3 million, with six month growth adding some 300,000 RPGers to the userbase.
The expansion pack The Burning Crusade has addressed many aspects fans were concerned about, and with the best-selling add-on just recently released in China (already a strong market for WoW) it looks likely that the world's most popular MMO will go from strength to strength.
The success of World of Warcraft has infinitely improved publisher Vivendi's bottom line, the company making 716 million Euros for the nine months ending in the recent third-quarter.
Another WoW expansion pack, Wrath of the Lich King, is set to debut in 2008. More cash will likely ensue.
